Installing mechanical components as a first extinguishing measure can be very valuable in many circumstances. Its automatic operation without the need for external power ensures the activation of extinguishing systems in complicated situations.

In many hazards it is not appropriate to use electrical devices for detection, and in other cases it is directly unfeasible when the risk is totally isolated. For protected areas where there is a high risk of explosion or electrical failure, additional mechanisms are required since electrical means could be rendered useless before becoming active.
